Artificial intelligence (AI) is changing everyday life. In just a few years, it has developed from an academic subject into an everyday topic. It has also become one of the most important investment drivers worldwide. In the S&P 500 index alone, the market capitalization of AI-related companies has increased by 12 trillion dollars since 2022. However, there is a less visible dimension to this phenomenon that the International Energy Agency (IEA) wants to draw attention to: the relationship between energy and AI. The recently published special report “Energy and AI” provides a comprehensive and highly relevant analysis of how this technology, often seen as something abstract, is having a very concrete impact on the world’s energy systems.
