Uruguay is an industrial country. Although it may sound strange, this statement is indisputable from an energy perspective, since 2008 the industrial sector is the largest consumer of energy. However, although the weight of the industry has grown in the last two decades, this preponderance is explained by the introduction to the country of the production of cellulose pulp. As the third plant comes into operation, in this report we will analyze the impact of this industry on the Uruguayan energy sector, focusing on paper mills and their contribution to electricity generation and their composition.
