The suscription of residential electricity tariffs in Uruguay underwent a fundamental change in 2021. The “Doble Horario Residencial” tariff (DHR) registered a 74% increase in the number of contracts signed. The DHR was introduced in November 1993 and for twenty-four years was the only alternative tariff for Uruguayan households to the standard tariff, the “Residencial Simple”. Its take-up was always very low, so that twenty years after its introduction only 3.8% of households had taken it up.
